WHY DO YOU EAT FOOD?

Everyone would surely say that we eat food when we feel hungry and to curb the hunger tasty food is preferred. Have you ever asked yourself that whatever diet you are eating or you cook for your children or elder parents or in-laws or friends or for family, how it is going to benefit or indirectly harm them? Sounds strange!! Many times, we all cook food for family only for taste and make sure that our family does not feel hungry but don’t think about the nutrient value of the food that is served to everyone.

The intake of calories is very important if you wish to loose weight. It is important to consume a balanced diet. Even if you exercise for at least an hour and continue to eat food which includes carbohydrates and fats, you may regain weight and it may be difficult to loose weight. In fact, daily intake of nutrients will vary from person to person and will depend on the physical activity performed during the day. Basically nutrients provide energy, promote growth and development, and regulate body functions. When we talk of nutrients, we can broadly categorize it into following sections:
1. Carbohydrates
2. Fats
3. Proteins
4. Vitamins
5. Minerals
6. Water
CARBOHYDRATES - are considered to provide energy. Our body utilizes most carbohydrates to generate glucose.
FATS – consists of high energy yielding molecules and provide energy.
If you are trying to loose weight it would be better to AVOID OR REDUCE the quantity of the food that contains high quantity of Carbohydrates and Fats, such as:
  • Fried food – Samosa, oily halwa, fried paranthas, puris, fried chips or paneer or any other vegetable cooked in oil. Some people prefer to fry vegetables such as fried bhindi or kathal etc.
  • Banana, Rice, Biscuits, Bread – White, Rusk etc.
